Chesapeake Energy is encouraging all of Tarrant County to giddy-up and give this Christmas holiday. As one of the top sponsors for the second year in a row, Chesapeake and its employees are helping carry on this yuletide Fort Worth tradition of gift-giving and generosity.
For the last 25 years, the Cowboy Santas program has provided thousands of children residing in Tarrant County households with toys, games and books at no cost to low-income families. The goal of the program is to help make the holiday brighter for those in need while helping to alleviate some of the financial stress affecting these families.
As you might imagine, the need is greater than ever this year, and Chesapeake is encouraging all Tarrant County residents to get involved by giving back to the community. In 2007 alone, Cowboy Santas program served 3,815 families, providing gifts for 10,412 children*.
Heather Snider, community relations coordinator for Chesapeake, participated in the program last year and was really touched by the experience. “It was exciting to see the City of Fort Worth come together to help those in need during the holidays,” recalls Snider.
Throughout the holiday season, donations of toys, money, and food items are collected to be distributed at holiday parties for parent’s and family who attend and “shop” for age-appropriate gifts for their kids. Cowboy Santas’ goal is to give each child a major toy, books, games and stocking stuffers.
The success of this program depends upon the public’s generous donation of time, toys and financial contributions. People may also donate much-needed items like diapers, clothing and even grocery store gift cards. For a list of qualifying items to contribute and donation locations, visit www.cowboysantas.org.
