Overview
Chesapeake Energy has developed a master development plan in south Fort Worth that can successfully produce the minerals of many neighborhoods and business districts south of I-30, extending beyond Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and encompassing almost 5,000 acres and thousands of current and potential lessors. The comprehensive plan can allow the development of natural gas from a minimum number of padsites in the area, without the need for the controversial TCU Stadium site on the college campus.
Called the "Meerkat to Seminary" plan (or "Meerkat" for short) because it provides comprehensive strategy to potentially produce minerals from the Fort Worth Zoo through Southwestern Baptist Seminary, the plan relies on seven padsites that are primarily in industrial surroundings.
Development Plan
The Meerkat Plan consist of seven total drillsites. The site include:
- Merrimac: off of Old University Drive where Days Inn used to be
- Pearson: located south of Mopac Road, just north of Colonial Country Club golf course
- Thornton: in industrial area, near Old Granbury Road
- Santa Fe: located near Seminary Drive and Lubbock Avenue
- Structural Steel: near Old Granbury Road and McCart Avenue
- Seminary: off Seminary near 8th Avenue
- Southwestern Baptist Seminary: located east of McCart Avenue near Yates street
The Meerkat plan minimizes or eliminates truck routes or pipelines through residential neighborhoods, and no new compressor stations will be needed.Chesapeake is working with the City of Fort Worth to ensure drilling operations meet the City's drilling ordinance.Â
