As the nation’s 11th-oldest bowl game, the Independence Bowl has had a long history in the Shreveport-Bossier City, Louisiana, area since 1975. Now the AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl, the game is still an after-Christmas tradition for many families and football fans and a source of pride for the area.
For the fourth year in a row, Chesapeake sponsored the game and hosted a tailgate event for members of the Independence Bowl Foundation featuring one of the company’s natural gas-powered fleet vehicles. The vehicle represents the second phase of Chesapeake’s efforts to convert its more than 4,500 fleet vehicles to run on compressed natural gas (CNG).
After reaching its 800-conversion milestone in April 2011, the company began replacing vehicles in the Haynesville with those that run on the cleaner and more cost-efficient fuel. With gasoline and diesel prices remaining high in many parts of the country, the company is set to realize annual at least $11 million in fuel savings once the entire fleet has been converted to CNG.
